Jagex has racked up a trio of Guinness World Records for its iconic MMORPG RuneScape, namely:
Most original pieces of music in a videogame (including expansions), which now stands at 1,198
Most users of an MMO videogame, which as of 25th July 2017 was 254,994,744
Most prolifically updated MMORPG videogame, at 1,014 updates.
Stephen Daultrey, editor of Guinness World of Records: Gamers’ Edition, presented the new and updated records to the RuneScape team at Jagex’s studio last week.
RuneScape currently holds several Guinness World Records, and some are particularly eclectic. These include Most fish in a videogame (eight billion were caught in 2012); the First MMO videogame to release an ‘old school’ version; and Most videogame-related forum posts per day, which was set in June 2013 when 27,000 posts were submitted every day.
Established in 2001, Jagex today stands as a key game developer and publisher and is the home to the iconic online role-playing game, RuneScape. RuneScape has welcomed over 250 million players to its world and more than two million of them play every month, while millions more watch avidly through social channels. In addition to RuneScape, Jagex has developed new RuneScape-branded games as it enters additional genres, including the authentically vintage edition, Old School RuneScape. Jagex employs over 320 people at its Cambridge headquarters. In 2016 Jagex became part of Fukong Interactive Entertainment, a global games group publicly listed in China.
