It's not been long since the unfortunate closure of the acclaimed studio Volition. However, there is some good news as former employees have come together to establish a new studio known as ShapeShifter Games, and they will in their own words: "partnered with world-class developers and publishers on the creation of AAA games". Shapeshifter Games will focus on effortlessly assisting third-party studios in game development rather than creating their projects.
Their first main project in assisting an AAA third-party studio is with the upcoming Clockwork Revolution, the highly anticipated steampunk RPG, developed by inXile Entertainment. This is the same studio whose renowned work includes Wasteland 2 and 3. In a statement on their website, inXile announced the partnership with ex-Volition, which is fantastic news all round.
Clockwork Revolution is set to be a very ambitious time-travelling RPG with steampunk aesthetics, where players' choices can warp the fabric of the world in interesting ways. The game was announced at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2023 and we've not heard much else, and as of now, the game doesn't have a release date. But you can add it to your wishlist on Steam to learn more.
