Level Headed Games, a new studio led by industry veteran Leah Hoyer, has officially announced its debut title, Whimpact!, a vibrant cooperative arena party game where "the more you care, the better you play." Infusing creature-collection elements reminiscent of Pokémon with the joyful multiplayer chaos of Fall Guys, Whimpact! is set to bring a unique blend of adventure and automation to players.
The game transports players to the colorful land of Whimpact!, where they team up with magical companions called Whims. Unlike typical creature-collectors, this title flips the script: as players care for their Whims—giving them a home and tending to their needs—the creatures grow stronger and, critically, imbue the players with superpowers. Each Whim offers different abilities, such as higher jumping, damage resistance, and increased speed, allowing up to eight players to strategically mix and match powers to suit their playstyles.
The core gameplay centers on Co-Op Arena challenges in "The Beyond," where teams engage in an extreme, Easter-egg-style hunt to recover lost Starcane energy. Armed with whimsical items like a watermelon saber, players must navigate challenging obstacles and robotic opponents to gather valuable Starcane bundles before time runs out. Teamwork and high scores yield better rewards, reinforcing the game's core theme of cooperation.
Beyond the arena, players can collect seven color and six power variants of Whims, offering powers like Magnetization and Antifreeze. Extensive cosmetics and decor are also available, allowing players to personalize their characters and Home Tiles—a feature that helps Whims level up faster.
Leah Hoyer, Level Headed Games founder and CEO, previously developed and produced for renowned companies like Disney, Xbox, and Bungie. Whimpact! began under her leadership at Wizards of the Coast and was secured for release by Hoyer after the initial studio closure.
Players can wishlist Whimpact! on Steam today ahead of its planned Early Access release.
