Athens-based indie developer SOTO Game Studio has officially announced their debut title, Luminas: Parasite Reign, coming soon to Steam. Fans of the genre won't have to wait long to experience the chaos, as a playable demo is set to drop on March 26, 2026.
Defend the Land of Solaris
In Luminas: Parasite Reign, players are tasked with defending the vibrant land of Solaris from encroaching waves of corruptive parasites. Unlike traditional solo-survivor roguelites, survival here hinges on party-based team building. Players begin their run by selecting a primary Lumina—such as the fiery dragon Pyropeep or the sturdy Shelly the Turtle—and must explore the map to awaken up to two additional teammates.
The strategic depth lies in how you balance your trio. With each Lumina offering distinct elemental powers, players must choose between high-damage DPS builds, explosive Area of Effect (AoE) attacks, or tanky support buffs. The game features three diverse biomes, ranging from icy caverns to volcanic zones, each culminating in intense boss encounters that require a mix of raw power and puzzle-solving tactics.
Evolution and Synergy
The core of the Luminas experience is the Synergy System. With 64 spells and over 90 pieces of equippable treasure, the combinations are nearly endless. As your party levels up, specific spell pairings unlock rare upgrades and "Evolutionary states," where your creatures transform to reveal enhanced stats and new traits. Between runs, players can return to their village to spend gold on permanent skill tree upgrades, ensuring that no two attempts at the arena feel the same.
