The survival genre is reaching new heights—literally. Tokyo-based developer Apogee has announced that its highly anticipated skyborne odyssey, Atmosfar, will officially launch into Steam Early Access in Q2 2026. This 1–4 player exploration adventure invites pilots to leave the terra firma behind and venture into the clouds of a mysterious alien world.
A Voyage Above the Clouds
Set on the planet Tycos, Atmosfar casts players as survivors navigating a vast open world of floating islands and enigmatic alien life. The goal? To uncover the fate of humanity’s final outpost. To do so, players must master a unique blend of aerial exploration and ground-based scavenging, all while managing the resources necessary to keep their fleet airborne.
The heart of the experience is the Cloud Cruiser, a colossal, customizable mobile airbase. This flying fortress serves as your primary home and laboratory. As you explore, you will craft new parts and engineer advanced technologies to upgrade the Cruiser, allowing you to reach higher altitudes and previously inaccessible biomes.
Build Your Squadron
Whether flying solo or forming a squadron with up to three friends in co-op multiplayer, players must operate a specialized fleet of vessels known as Wasps. Each Wasp is designed for a specific role in your survival:
Utility & Cargo Wasps: Essential for heavy lifting and resource gathering.
Scout Wasp: Ideal for surveying the planet and charting unknown territories.
Fighter Wasp: A fast, powerful craft designed to defend your fleet from the planet’s hazards.
Survive the Skies of Tycos
Life among the floating islands is far from serene. Tycos is home to diverse biomes, each presenting its own environmental threats. Pilots will need to navigate through turbulent thunderstorms and ferocious sandstorms that test both their flying skills and the structural integrity of their fleet.
With its stunning vistas and deep base-building mechanics, Atmosfar is shaping up to be a standout title for fans of open-world survival. Wishlist Atmosfar on Steam today to stay updated on the upcoming Q2 launch, or join the community on Discord to connect with fellow pilots.
