Developers Joe and Andrew Fender, the duo behind the indie hit DEVOUR, alongside publisher Future Friends Games, have announced that the release of their co-op climbing game Sunset Summit has been rescheduled to 9th September 2026.

Designed as a 1-to-8 player cooperative hiking experience, Sunset Summit tasks players with navigating floating sky islands to reach ancient mountain peaks before sunset. Unlike traditional high-penalty climbing games, the title focuses on accessible progression by incorporating regular checkpoints and immediate respawns following falls.

Players navigate through 16 handcrafted routes distributed across four distinct floating islands. To assist with the vertical terrain, climbing teams can utilize standard equipment such as ice axes, ropes, and item delivery drones, alongside unconventional gear including pogo sticks, booster pills, and umbrellas. The game features proximity chat and in-game walkie-talkies to facilitate communication and teamwork across large groups. An offline single-player mode is also supported.

Developer Joe Fender originally began work on Sunset Summit in 2021 as a departure from his previous work in the survival horror genre with DEVOUR, which went on to sell over seven million copies. The new project is published by Future Friends Games, whose portfolio includes indie releases such as CloverPit, Exo One, and Laysara: Summit Kingdom.

The game allows players to select from multiple routes of varying difficulty, using tools and physics-based mechanics to assist teammates up steep ascents. The title also includes an in-game photography mechanic, allowing players to document their journey across the floating landscapes.

Sunset Summit launches globally on Steam on 9th September 2026, with a playable demo currently available on the platform.
